⚽ "We've outgrown the stadium" - MP calls for stakeholder talks as League Two takes shape - York Outer MP Luke Charters has called on the club, City of York Council, and North Yorkshire Police to start a formal conversation about the long-term future of York City FC - including a potential new stadium. After promotion was confirmed on 25 April, Charters said the LNER Community Stadium's 8,500 capacity is now too small for the club's ambitions. "York City's promotion could be the spark for the next generation of fans," he said. "We need to get all the stakeholders together to talk about this next season. The current stadium is too small for our ambitions - we've outgrown it."

York City FC has not commented on the stadium question. Separate to the capacity debate, the club's bus parade is confirmed for Thursday 7 May — route and timings expected to be announced imminently. YorkMix | York Press

🌹 Lancaster wins Roses for the fifth consecutive year — and breaks their own record - The 60th anniversary Roses Tournament has ended in a familiar result: Lancaster University beat the University of York, finishing 241.5 points to 120.5 — Lancaster's largest-ever winning margin, breaking their own record of 241 points set at home in 2022. York had not won Roses since 2019. The tournament attracted an estimated 30,000 spectators across three days. York men's 1st rugby provided the final win of the tournament, beating Lancaster 24-39 in the closing match, but it wasn't enough to close an enormous gap. ⛪ Limestone ramp installed at York Minster — largest architectural change in nearly two centuries

York Minster has completed the installation of a permanent limestone ramp into the Quire — described as the largest architectural change to the building in nearly 150 years. The ramp provides step-free access to one of the cathedral's most sacred spaces for the first time on a permanent basis. Designed from pale limestone with contrasting black marble slabs and bespoke blacksmith-forged iron railings, the project took Minster stonemasons nearly five months and was made possible through the use of new five-axis computer-aided cutting saws at the Minster's Centre of Excellence for Heritage Craft Skills. It includes a hand-carved dedication stone to King Charles III. The ramp is to be unveiled later this month. Gazette & Herald / York Press

🚕 5% taxi fare rise proposed for North Yorkshire - council decides 12 May - North Yorkshire Council's executive will meet on Tuesday 12 May to decide whether to approve a 5% increase to maximum hackney carriage fares across the county, the first revision since July 2024. The proposed rise is driven by fuel cost increases: petrol has risen 17.58% and diesel by 42.26% since fares were last set. Under the proposal, daytime fares would rise from £2.22 to £2.33 per mile; night rates (10pm–7am) from £3.15 to £3.31 per mile. The changes would only apply to hackney carriages (those that can be hailed on the street or rank), not private hire vehicles, which set their own fares. A statutory notice period for objections follows any approval. YorkMix
