Liam Palmer | Accountant on Instagram: ”💥 HMRC haven’t charged you tax twice, even if it feels like it. If you’ve just filed your tax return and your January bill is way higher than expected, this is probably why 👇 If your tax liability is over £1,000, HMRC may ask for payments on account. That means: ✔️ your final balancing payment for the year you’ve just filed ✔️ plus your first advance payment towards the next tax year This isn’t extra tax. And you’re not paying tax on money you haven’t earned. HMRC are simply spreading your tax across the year, based on you earning roughly the same as last year. 📉 Earned less? You can reduce your payments on account. 📈 Earned more? You’ll make a balancing payment next January. Understanding this one rule can remove a lot of January panic. 👉 Follow me for more simple, no-nonsense tax tips. #SelfEmployedUK #TaxTipsUK #PaymentsOnAccount #SmallBusinessUK #HMRC”
